We are absolutely ecstatic to announce our  Spanish Varietal Extra Virgin Olive Oil won at the 7th Annual Good Food Awards!  The Good Food Awards - the only national initiative to recognize craft food producers who excel in both taste and sustainability - were created to redefine ‘good food’ as being tasty, authentic and responsible.

What Makes a Good Food Award Winner?

Every year, entries are accepted from producers of beer, charcuterie, cheese, chocolate, cider, coffee, confections, honey, oils, pantry, pickles, preserves, and spirits. To submit, a strict criteria must be met for each product to be authentically created.  No artificial ingredients may be used; only the use of ingredients that are grown without synthetic fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and GMO's are considered. Growing methods are expected to promote healthy soil and biodiversity, while water and resource conservation are required practices.

Transparency and honesty with consumers about the food's growing and production is highly valued within the judging process, as is the use of seasonal and regionally local ingredients in the final product. The Good Food Awards Winners are chosen by selecting the three highest-scoring finalists from each region within each category, but the most enjoyable and best representation of a Good Food Award Winner is that it tastes amazing, and people love it!

Round Pond's Olive Oil Won Because...

We believe in quality, and nothing gives us greater satisfaction than caring for the land, harvesting its bounty, and crafting artisan products.  As a family farm, we strive to make the very best Napa Valley wines and gourmet foods from our Rutherford estate. We are immensely proud of this recognition by The Good Food Awards.

Our Spanish Varietal Olive Oil is crafted from the fruit of 100-year-old olive trees on our Rutherford estate. The Spanish varietals are picked last during harvest to allow the buttery profiles of the olive an opportunity to fully develop and shine.

All our olives are harvested by hand, and milled within 90 minutes of being picked.  The three Estate Spanish varietals we grow are crushed separately in our traditional stone mill to accentuate the fruity profile of each and then cold-pressed utilizing the modern technology of a centrifuge.  The centrifuge provides superior extraction by using velocity and force to separate the olive oil from the water and pomace.  Unlike most other olive oil producers who use heat or chemicals to extract oil from the olives, this "Cold-Press Plus" (as we like to call it) is similar to juice extraction as it allows us to retain the purest nutritional and antioxidant values found in our fresh olive oil.  Once each varietal is pressed, it is funneled into a stainless steel tank, under nitrogen compression  - omitting oxygen completely, and keeping the oil in its freshest state possible while it further settles.

After a patient resting period, the art of the blend begins!  Trained by an Italian mill master, our skilled team meticulously tastes each oil varietal, testing dozens of blending combinations to achieve a perfect master blend that embodies an ideal balance of fruit, aromatics, and warmth. Because the oil is precious – with each tree producing only one gallon of olive oil – we blend in extremely small lots and bottle on demand to ensure the richest, most vibrant flavors possible.

With many products to choose from in the Napa Valley, Round Pond stands apart from the rest for the authenticity of our product, which experiences the utmost in care from beginning to end.
